Here are some ways to get involved with AUUC. For more information and updates use our contact form.
Double Ewe Knitters
Double Ewe Knitters is a casual group of knitters who get together to make things for charity. Knitwear has been made and sent to Afghanistan, Haiti, and Joplin, Missouri. Socks have been donated to hospice, newborn skull caps to the newborn nursery at the hospital, hats and mittens to the public schools. Hat and mitten sets were given to the Headstart preschool group which services twenty-eight children. Charities are identified and then members decide upon a project, knit, and gather completed items for distribution.
Grace Pantry Mission Project
The congregation takes a turn with other congregations in the area to staff and supply Grace Pantry for one month during the year. AUUC’s month is May. Grace Pantry supplies personal care products and paper goods that cannot be purchased with food stamps. There is always a special need for diapers.
Religious Exploration Committee
The Religious Exploration (RE) Committee guides the RE program for the children in our community. Different members of the congregation and the RE Committee teach the older children on a rotating basis. A new, age-appropriate curriculum is used each year. The curricula cover information about Unitarian Universalism, other world’s religions, religious holidays, peace, and how to get along as part of a community. In addition, we have a babysitter who provides nursery school and child care to children under the age of 5.
The Communitarian is a newsletter published monthly for the purpose of providing news and entertainment to the congregation of AUUC. Content includes a monthly schedule, President’s column, reports, announcements, poetry, and the occasional recipe.
Sunday Service Planning Committee
The Sunday Service Planning Committee has a two-fold responsibility — we come together to plan our Sunday services, and we also coordinate and facilitate those services. We work with the presenter, generate the Order of Services, make sure that the room is readied for the service, and broken down afterwards.
Other Events & Activities
Throughout the year, members and friends of AUUC get together to have fun, raise money, or hold community events. In the past there have been game nights, potlucks, picnics, craft fairs, yard sales, talent shows, movie nights, and lectures. Watch the calendar in the Communitarian and the website “Events” page for information about what’s coming up.
Board of Directors
The Board of Trustees has general charge of the Community and the conduct of all of its business and financial affairs. This is the only group of AUUC that you need to be a member to be part of. There are yearly elections for the Board positions at the annual meeting in December, and terms are 3 years.
